H1N1 Virus
Human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1 virus) infection have been identified in the U.S. in California, Kansas, New York City, Ohio, and Texas. Internationally, cases of Swine Influenza A have been noted in Mexico. The Centers for Diseaes Control (CDC) is working closely with its partners to conduct a thorough investigation of this outbreak. CDC has confirmed that this virus is contagious and is spreading from human to human.
Albany County Public Health is closely following the updates, information, research, and developments of this outbreak and will continue to update this website.
Symptoms of the swine influenza A closely resemble symptoms of seasonal influenza, such as fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, coughing, and specific to the swine influenza are nausea and vomiting symptoms. Preventative measures include washing hands frequently, covering your cough, and not sharing beverages/food.
