EDUCATION - High school graduation or equivalent.

AGE - Applicants shall be at least 19 years of
age.
3.
CITIZENSHIP -Applicant must be a citizen of the
United States or a legal resident alien. Previous
residence in Laramie is not required; however, residence
must be established and maintained if appointed.
4.
HEALTH - Excellent physical condition is required.
All applicants will be required to have a physical and
laboratory examination before appointment. The laboratory
evaluation will include a drug screening. The applicant's
eyesight must meet FAA Vision Standards and must also
have normal depth perception.
5.
PHYSICAL EXAMINATION -This examination is conducted
by Fire Department physician. Defects which cannot reasonably
accommodated which would bar the applicant from firefighting
work will disqualify the applicant. The City of Laramie
reserves the right to require any special or technical
examinations. The expense of this examination is paid
by the City of Laramie.
6.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION - A background investigation
including employment and pre-employment records; records
of complaint, arrest, trial and/or convictions for alleged
or actual violations of law, including criminal, civil
and/or traffic records, whether the records are of a public,
private, or confidential nature, will be completed upon
an offer of appointment being made.
7.
PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE TEST - All applicants will
be required to pass a physical performance test as part
of the testing process.
8.
SALARY - Currently, the starting salary for an
entry level firefighter is $3,152 per month. Normal increases
bring the Firefighter's pay to $4,236 per month. All salaries
are set and agreed upon by Union Contract.
9.
COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION - Applicants are appointed
to the Fire Department only after taking a written competitive
examination. A passing score of at least 70% is required
on the written examination to qualify for admittance to
the physical examination. Upon sucessful completion of
the phisical examination, an oral interview will be scheduled.
An average score of 75% is required for those taking both
the written and oral examinations. Applicants passing
both the written and oral examinations are placed on an
eligibility list certified by the Fire Civil Service Commission.
Selections and appointments are the prerogative of the
Fire Chief from the top three applicants appearing on
the eligibility list. The list will be valid for two years.
10.
PROMOTIONS-The ranks of EMT II, ACLS,
Equipment Operator, Company Officer, Shift Commander,
Division Chief and Fire Chief are all positions above
the rank of Firefighter. Firefighters have the opportunity
for promotion to higher positions from written and performance
examinations.
11.
WORKING HOURS - The Fire Department operates
under a 56 hour work week for shift personnel. The firefighter
is expected to be on duty from 0800 hours one day until
0800 the following day. The firefighter is then "off
duty" for a 48 hour period. Firefighters are also
subject to emergency call back while on their off duty
time.
12.
UNIFORMS - Firefighters are provided their complete
uniform issue as set forth in the department manual. Uniform
cleaning is paid for by the City of Laramie.
13.
