Fiscal Year 2006-2007 Major Projects
1. Animal Shelter Expansion – The current Animal Shelter was inadequate to serve the needs of the community. With the support of City Council, City Senior Management Staff and the Animal Shelter Foundation, the Shelter expansion was completed this year. The Shelter experienced a remodel of certain existing areas and the addition of approximately 1800 square feet to include an education room, visiting rooms and more kennel space.
2. Officer Assigned Take Home Vehicles – Each sworn officer assigned to the Operations/Patrol Division is now assigned a fully equipped marked police vehicle. Officers have the option of taking home their vehicles, with limited use on days off, as directed by policy. This enables vehicles to last much longer (6-8 years), expedite police response to major incidents and greatly enhance police presence in the community.
3. Downtown Laramie Storefront Operation – The Police Department has completed the development of a “Downtown Storefront Operation” at the corner of 3rd and Garfield Streets. The facility is attached to the Moose Lodge and was once used as a bank annex. The Storefront enhances police accessibility and visibility in the busy Downtown Corridor.
4. Police Facility Lobby Security Remodel – The Police Facility, located at 620 Plaza Court, has undergone a lobby remodel to enhance the safety and security of the staff and physical property.
5. Regional Training Programs/Partnerships – It is a goal of the Laramie Police Department to be a significant contributor in offering regional training opportunities. In December of 2006, the Laramie Police Department offered a one day seminar open to all regional law enforcement agencies on “Emotional Survival”. This seminar was very well attended and co-sponsored by the Cheyenne Police Department. In January, 2007, the Laramie Police Department in partnership with the Cheyenne Police Department sponsored “Leadership Training”. With the construction of the new “UW Convention Center and Hotel Complex” we plan to expand regional training opportunities in the near future.
6. Dedicated Traffic Unit – The Laramie Police Department deployed two dedicated Traffic Officers. We are certain that the Traffic Unit will add greatly to community safety and quality of life. The Unit employs enforcement, prevention and education as a means to success.
7. E 911 Telephone Replacement – The Laramie Police Department/Albany County Records and Communications Center replaced dated E 911 Telephone Technology to update its system and ensure quality service and the latest in emergency communications equipment. In 2008, we plan to replace the dispatch consoles with the best and latest technology as well as explore the implementation of a Reverse 911 System. |
