Police Department Profile
The Laramie Police Department is a full-service police organization including uniformed patrol operations; criminal investigations; drug enforcement; crime prevention; High Risk Youth, DARE, animal control; and parking enforcement; records/public reception and emergency communications (LARC), public information, recruitment, training, and; county-wide police, fire, and medical 9-1-1 emergency communications; and support services to the Laramie and Albany County communities. The Police Department operates under a community policing philosophy that engages both the community and staff in strategic problem solving to reduce crime, disorder, public nuisance and traffic safety problems.
The Police Department values diversity and strives to recruit and retain a diverse and well-educated work force which includes women/minority and bilingual officers. To accomplish its mission, the Police Department also maintains an extensive network of internal and external partnerships that leverage community and public resources.
The Police Department is comprised of two divisions including Operations and LARC. The Office of the Chief includes overall administrative support and the Professional Standards Unit. Additionally, the Police Department plans to partner with the community to secure neighborhood offices to meet citizens and conduct investigations in the different patrol districts.
