MOSQUITO CONTROL

Mosquito Control currently rates the risk of West Nile virus infection at Level 1-(Low Risk). This rating is based on very low numbers of vector mosquitoes being collected in surveillance traps and no confirmed cases of WNv in the Laramie basin. Mosquito control reminds citizens to use precautions when working and recreating outdoors to prevent mosquito bites.

Fogging for control of adult mosquitoes is concluded for the season. Low temperatures and larval control measures are keeping adult mosquito numbers well below the threshold for fogging. Presently no cases of West Nile virus (WNv) have been confirmed in Albany County and the City of Laramie currently rates the risk of infection at level 1 (Remote Risk). Wyoming Department of Health is reporting nine human cases of WNv in the state at this time. Six are located in Fremont County, Platte County has two cases and Goshen County has one reported case. No deaths have been reported.

Mosquito control reminds citizens to use precautions when working and recreating outdoors to prevent mosquito bites. Current mosquito surveillance locally, shows very low numbers of vector mosquitoes being collected at all trap locations. Testing of collected mosquitoes has resulted in no positive samples from 60 sample pools. Larval surveillance and control is ongoing at all known sites where vector mosquito production is likely. Call the hotline at 721-5056 to report standing water sources or hear a recorded message detailing applications for both Mosquito Control and Parks and Cemetery Integrated Pest Management.
