Laramie Area Clean Water

(formerly Laramie Regional Drinking Water Protection Program)

Laramie Area Clean Water is a county-wide program designed to protect the drinking water supplies for Albany County residents, living both within the City of Laramie and in rural areas near Laramie. The program's objective is to address protection of our drinking water from groundwater contamination.

Quick Links

A group of concerned citizens, in cooperation with the City of Laramie and Albany County, hope to heighten public awareness about sources of groundwater contamination as they develop management strategies to minimize this threat. This ongoing effort is aimed at protecting our aquifer, the Casper Aquifer.

The program's emphasis is protecting vulnerable areas and reducing the risk of cotnamination to the aquifer. Areas of high vulnerability have been identified east of town along the base of the Laramie Range. Potential contaminant sources to be aware of include: illicit dumping in the area, water run-off from parking lots, quarries, potential hazardous waste spills on I-80 or the Union Pacific railroad, stored chemicals commonly found in garages and barns, abandoned wells, and leaking septic tank systems. Awareness and prevention is the number one priority for protecting the aquifer.
