Where is the Recreation
Center located?
The Recreation Center is currently under construction at 920 Boulder
Drive.
When will the construction be completed and the facility
open?
The outdoor pool is scheduled to be completed and open by
July 20th 2004 and the Recreation Center is scheduled to
be completed and open by September 12, 2004. What will be included within the Recreation Center project?
The floor plans as approved with the construction project
are included on the next
two pages. The first floor will
include a grand hall entrance area, a conference room with
an adjoining warming kitchen, a babysitting area, an indoor
playground area, a gymnasium with two cross courts for
basketball or volleyball and other indoor sports, an indoor
leisure pool with two 60’ lap lanes, an indoor water
slide, a lazy river, water play features with a zero depth,

multi purpose wet/dry classroom, an open fitness area for
cardio equipment, an outdoor leisure pool with outdoor
water slide and play features with two 60’ lap lanes

locker rooms with eight family locker rooms and administrative
staff and maintenance areas. The second floor will include

an open fitness area for circuit weights and cardio equipment,
and a group exercise room with rest rooms.
What is the total cost of the project?
The entire cost of the project is $10,851,858 which is funded
from the Recreation Center special purpose tax of $9,931,888
along with the Outdoor Pool special purpose tax of $500,000
and $400,000 of private contributions from the Laramie
Swims organization for the outdoor pool construction. What will it cost to join and use the Recreation Center
and Outdoor Pool?
The fee structure has not been determined as of this date
and will be recommended to the City Council by the Parks,
Tree and Recreation Advisory Board along with the Recreation
Center operational consultant who has prepared an operational
pro-forma report based upon fee structures of similar facilities
adjusted to the Laramie market conditions and environment. How much will it cost to construct the 8 lane competitive
pool?
The estimated cost to add the 8 lane competitive lap pool
to the current Recreation Center project is $1,200,000. This
cost estimate includes both the building cost and the actual
8 lane pool costs without any competitive swimming equipment.
All the current design and construction will permit the 8
lane competitive pool to be added onto the building project
at any time after the construction funding has been identified
and secured.
